WA:Never fear - GFC II is on the way

WA:Never fear - GFC II is on the way

By Cortlan Bennett

PERTH, Dec 1 AAP - Another global financial crisis may be on its way, according to
Bunnings and Officeworks managing director John Gillam, but tough times are nothing to
fear.

The man who heads Wesfarmers' home improvement and office supplies division - worth
a combined $8.3 billion in sales last financial year - is a firm believer in crisis-based
opportunity.

Speaking to a business forum in Perth on Thursday, Mr Gillam not only brushed off the
threat of arch-rival Woolworths' latest venture, but predicted its Bunnings hardware chain
would expand globally over the next decade.

Woolworths launched its Masters Home Improvement chain in Australia with US joint-venture
partner Lowe's in September, in a broadside aimed at Bunnings.

Mr Gillam says his company isn't losing any sleep.

"We understand what the US joint venture, Woolworths and Lowe's, is doing," he said.

"I don't think we're a complacent organisation - in fact we're a little bit paranoid
about what anyone new is doing - but there's one thing that I've seen from their first
few stores.

"Their ambitions were big and they talked the talk - a couple of dozen stores by Christmas
this year was something that was said on the record.

"There's nothing there we've seen so far that's keeping us awake at night."

Although Mr Gillam said he had a "funny feeling GFC wave two" was coming, the company
was prepared.

"The funny thing about tough times in business is that it's the one time when everyone
who works for you realises that they must do more with less," he said.

"If you're in charge of a business, it's a fantastic time to find a way to harness
that natural thought process in a really positive way.

"If your business is in good health, you shouldn't be scared by it.

"In all my time I don't think we've ever been in better shape nor have we been hungrier.

"The growth prospects we see in the market are huge."

Mr Gillam said Bunnings would first concentrate on its new "battle-hardened" business
in New Zealand, before focusing on the American and African markets.

"We do have very good knowledge about the North and other players in South America
and southern Africa," he said.

"I think at some point we will be moving into another geography across the next decade."

The West Australian-born managing director also took a shot at WA's archaic retail
trading hour restrictions, comparing them to "the 1930s".

Restrictions on what goods could be sold on which days were the biggest barrier to
growth in the WA market, he said.

"For us, the real issue is the restrictions on product," he said.

"It's pretty obvious people want to do things around their home or in the backyard
on the weekend, so being open to customers on a Sunday as well as a Saturday is pretty
(important) for us."

Bunnings' range was a "building block of growth", he said.

Infinite Research Releases Consumer Connected Device Market Forecast

Infinite Research Releases Consumer Connected Device Market Forecast
Type: News

Infinite Research announced the publication of its Global Consumer Connected Device Market Forecast.

According to a release, the report presents an analysis of the Consumer Connected Device market, including coverage of mobile connected devices and stationary home electronics. Both device categories are set to see rapid adoption over the next five years, with total shipments of consumer connected devices growing exponentially.
Overall shipments of consumer connected devices will increase from 262.1 million units in 2010 to 712.1 million units in 2015. Shipment growth is being driven by product manufacturers who are increasingly incorporating cellular and/or Wi-Fi connectivity into their devices. This trend will cause the global installed base of Consumer Connected Devices to swell to 2.1 billion units in 2015.

Virtually all mobile devices, including e-readers, tablet computers, portable games consoles, media players, digital cameras, and camcorders, are now being embedded with internet connectivity. The same is true for stationary consumer electronics devices; smart- TVs, connected Set-Top Boxes, video game consoles, Blu-Ray / DVD players, digital photo frames, and media phones are all being equipped with internet connectivity.

"The explosion of connected devices is being driven by consumers seeking on-demand access to movies, music, social networking services, applications, connected services, and other content. Additionally, wireless modules have hit price points that encourage device manufacturers to add internet connectivity to their products. This fact, in combination with falling device prices and fundamental demand, is driving consumer adoption of mobile connected devices and connected home electronics," said Mark Ritorto, President, Infinite Research.

Infinite Research's Consumer Connected Device Report provides detailed shipment, installed base, hardware revenue, and network revenue forecasts for all the device categories listed above, as well as further segmenting the data by region, technology type, and market classification. The report also provides in-depth coverage of the key trends, forces, developments, business models and success factors presently impacting the connected device space.

Infinite Research is a market research and strategic consulting firm.

Fed: Morrison brushes business worries about population policy

Opposition immigration spokesman SCOTT MORRISON has brushed aside business concerns
his population policy would constrain the economy.

The opposition released a policy paper yesterday .. in which an expanded Productivity
Commission would calculate a more rational population target than the 36 million by 2050
forecast by Treasury.

It says the Rudd government's dramatically boosted immigration .. and the opposition
won't sign up blind to a "big Australia".

But the Chamber of Commerce and Industry has already questioned the strategy .. saying
it could impede the economy.

Mr MORRISON's now told ABC TV the plan was received warmly when he discussed it with
business .. but he understands there'll be a range of views.

NSW: Four major fires burning across the state

NSW: Four major fires burning across the state

SYDNEY, Dec 16 AAP - Firefighters are battling four major bushfires across NSW, including
two on Sydney's outskirts, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) says.

No property is under immediate threat, but residents northwest of Sydney in Windsor
Downs and in Bringelly, in the city's southwest, have been placed on alert.

There are also major fires burning in the Upper Hunter region and southwest of Bundarra,
in the state's north.

Fire crews are preparing for tough days ahead, with hot and dry conditions expected
in much of the state.

A number of grass fires broke out on Sydney's outskirts on Wednesday as temperatures
reached the high 30s.

RFS spokesman Ben Shepherd said an air crane had been sent to help firefighters at
the Windsor Downs fire.

"At this stage it is still burning uncontained," he said late Wednesday afternoon.

"No property is directly under threat."

While the weather was hot, Mr Shepherd said winds were not too strong, but crews were
bracing for worse to come.

"It's not as bad as it potentially could be," he said of Wednesday's conditions.

"We are expecting a difficult day (on Thursday)."

Firefighters were starting to get the upper hand over the Bringelly blaze on Wednesday
afternoon, but there was still a long way to go to get it under control, Mr Shepherd said.

"The NSW Fire Brigade is standing by at properties there," he said.

"The fire front isn't actually impacting on homes, but the edge, or the flank of the
fire is quite close to homes."

Mr Shepherd said there were a number of fires were burning in the north of the state
and conditions were expected to deteriorate during the next two days.

"We are just working as quickly as we can to get some containment on them before we
move on to the warm, dry, windy weather."

Qld: CMC, police at odds over discipline

Qld: CMC, police at odds over discipline

By Steve Gray

BRISBANE, Aug 7 AAP - Queensland's corruption watchdog and the police service are at
odds over whether an overhaul of the police disciplinary system is needed.

The debate came as it was revealed Deputy Commissioners Kathy Rynders and Ian Stewart
opted for "managerial guidance" instead of disciplining five officers identified in Operation
Capri.

The operation, detailed in a Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) report Dangerous
Liaisons, found the officers allegedly offered inducements to prisoners in exchange for
evidence.

The two senior officers deemed the CMC had provided insufficient evidence against the
five to warrant discipline.

CMC chairman Robert Needham is unhappy with the result of the process and has now flagged
a review of police disciplinary procedures.

Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson said in a statement that "it was inevitable and probably
healthy that there are occasional differences of view between the two agencies".

Premier Anna Bligh said she had discussed the issue of police disciplinary procedures
with Mr Needham and supported the review.

"I think there have been some instances in recent times that have raised questions
in the mind of the public, so I welcome the attention from the CMC to thoroughly review
this area," Ms Bligh told reporters on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said police should be judged on the same
standards as ordinary citizens.

"Everyone's still innocent until they're proven guilty," Mr Leavers told reporters.

"It's un-Australian for us to have a kangaroo court which will sack police, without
evidence, for doing their jobs.

"If it starts with police, where else is it going to happen?"

The Queensland Council for Civil Liberties (QCCL) lent support to the union argument.

"Of course it shouldn't be impossible to sack police, but equally you can't have a
system where police have a lesser standard of fairness in relation to being dismissed
than other public servants," council vice-president Terry O'Gorman said.

He said police were sometimes skilful at frustrating investigations to which they were
subject, but that meant investigators need to be even more skilful.

Mr O'Gorman said the CMC seemed to be edging towards a dismissal system used in other
states where an officer is sacked if he or she loses the confidence of the commissioner.

"That, without proper procedural protections, can result in a supervisor waging a vendetta
against someone lower in rank," Mr O'Gorman said.

Police Minister Neil Roberts backed the senior police officers.

"I am satisfied that the disciplinary processes applied to the officers concerned was
appropriate," he told AAP.

"The CMC has the right to appeal the outcome of any disciplinary process undertaken
by the QPS (Queensland Police Service)."

Mr Atkinson said the CMC could appeal police handling of a disciplinary matter to the
Supreme Court.

"The QPS disciplinary process is evidentiary-based and as a matter of law the decision
maker must have sufficient grounds before substantiating a matter and thereafter imposing
a disciplinary sanction," Mr Atkinson said.

"This means that from time to time, an individual decision maker or officer may decide
that there are insufficient grounds for disciplinary action."

Fed: We thought we had a deal with Xenophon: Tanner

CANBERRA, Feb 13 AAP - The federal government thought it had a deal with Nick Xenophon
before the independent senator asked for billions of dollars more for the Murray-Darling
Basin, Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner says.

The Rudd government is in talks with the South Australian Independent senator in a
bid to overcome the parliamentary impasse holding up its $42 billion economic stimulus
package.

Senator Xenophon voted with the coalition on Thursday to scuttle an amended package,
hammered out in deal between the government and the Greens.

Mr Tanner said the government thought it had a deal with Senator Xenophon as well,
when it agreed to bring forward about $400 million in spending for the basin.

"At the last moment, he came back with this giant proposal - billions of dollars -
which we cannot conceivably agree to for a variety of reasons," he told Fairfax Radio
Network.

The government had gone back to Senator Xenophon to clarify his position.

"This package is not about solving every problem that Australia faces," Mr Tanner said.

The government already had in place "a very big spending plan" over a long period of
time for the Murray Darling.

The Senate is currently debating a new package of bills passed by the lower house late
on Thursday night.

A prison dietitian tends to his food allergies and Murdoch, reportedly, has the guards

Internet Broadcast Audience Very Interested in New Digital Devices According to Latest Arbitron/Edison Media Research Study.

Business Editors

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2003

Internet Broadcast Audience Surpasses 100-Million Person

Milestone; African Americans and Hispanics Are Narrowing the

"Digital Divide"

Consumers who have tuned to Internet broadcasts in the past 30 days, also known as "Monthly Streamies," are "very interested" in owning a variety of digital devices, according to a new study by Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB) and Edison Media Research.

The study, entitled "Internet and Multimedia 10: The Emerging Digital Consumer," revealed that Monthly Streamies, are significantly more interested in digital devices than the general population. Twenty-nine percent of Monthly Streamies are "very interested" in plasma or flat panel television sets versus 17 percent of all Americans. Also, more than one in five Monthly Streamies (22 percent) are very interested in High Definition Television Sets (HDTV) compared with 12 percent of all Americans.

The scope of the latest research from Arbitron and Edison Media Research has been expanded beyond Internet usage and streaming media trends to include information on consumer interest in new digital devices, attitudes about programming and a variety of media including digital cable and satellite television.

"Internet broadcasting is rapidly becoming a mass medium with an estimated 103 million people or 44 percent of the total population having ever used Internet audio or video," said Bill Rose, vice president and general manager, Arbitron Internet Broadcast Services. "Considering the high degree of interest in digital devices exhibited by 'Streamies,' marketers of consumer electronics would be smart to consider advertising on Internet broadcasting to reach and influence their target audience."

The study also reports that the "digital divide" in Internet usage

appears to be narrowing:

-- Overall, 75 percent of the total population now has access to the Internet from any location compared with 74 percent of African Americans and 65 percent of Hispanic Americans. -- The "digital divide" is widest with home and work Internet access. Nearly half (48 percent) of Hispanics and 60 percent of African Americans have Internet access at home or work compared with 70 percent among whites. However, Arbitron and Edison Media Research report that public libraries and schools have done an exceptional job in providing more access to ethnic constituencies. Over a third (34 percent) of African Americans and nearly a quarter (24 percent) of Hispanics access the Internet at public libraries compared with 19 percent of White Americans. Also, nearly a third (32 percent) of African Americans and nearly a quarter (24 percent) of Hispanics access the Internet from schools compared with a quarter (25 percent) of White Americans.

"The 'digital divide' is narrowing and computer makers, Internet service providers, and broadband companies should be developing marketing plans for the African-American and Hispanic-American population," said Joe Lenski, executive vice president, Edison Media Research. "There is an opportunity to build brand loyalty among these important consumers while they make their computer, Internet and broadband purchasing decisions."

The Internet and Multimedia 10 study also reveals that the number of Americans who have super-fast broadband Internet connections in their homes has more than doubled in the last two years, from seven percent in January 2001 to 18 percent in January 2003. Average time spent online per week among those with broadband is 13 hours compared to eight hours per week for those who use dial-up. Between TV, radio, newspapers and the Internet, those with broadband allocate a much larger share of their daily media time with the Internet (27 percent) compared to those with dial-up connections (17 percent).

Additional findings from the study include:

-- Consumer satisfaction with Internet audio is on the rise, with

35 percent of Internet audio listeners reporting that they

"love it" or "like it" compared to 26 percent in July 2001.

-- Approximately 12 million Americans would be willing to pay a

small fee to listen to content provided by the one Internet

audio source they listen to most.

-- Most give local radio stations high marks for playing the

music they like and variety of programming. Nearly

three-quarters (73 percent) of Americans believe that radio

does a very good or good job of playing the music they like

and 69 percent believe that radio does a very good or good job

of providing a variety of programming.

The findings reported here are based on a January 2003 survey consisting of 2,005 telephone interviews with a randomly selected national sample of Arbitron Fall 2002 radio survey diary keepers. Since 1998, Arbitron and Edison Media Research have conducted 10 groundbreaking studies on the Internet and streaming media, one every six months. Wave Technologies International Adopts Stockholder Rights Plan.

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Wave Technologies International Inc. (Nasdaq: WAVT) announced that its Board of Directors has adopted a stockholder rights plan designed to protect the long-term value of the company for its stockholders during any future unsolicited acquisition attempt.

The plan is designed to give Wave's Board of Directors sufficient time to study and respond to an unsolicited tender offer or other attempted acquisition. Adoption of the plan was not made in response to any specific attempt to acquire Wave or its shares, and Wave is not aware of any current efforts to do so.

In connection with the plan, the Board declared a dividend of one preferred share purchase right for each share of the company's common stock outstanding on Sept. 28, 1998 (the "Record Date") and further directed the issuance of one such right with respect to each share of the company's common stock that is issued after the Record Date, except in certain circumstances. The rights will expire on Sept. 28, 2008.

The rights are initially attached to the company's common stock and will not trade separately. If a person or a group (an "Acquiring Person") acquires 15 percent or more of the company's common stock, or announces an intention to make a tender offer for 15 percent or more of the company's common stock, then, unless delayed by the Board, the rights will be distributed and will thereafter trade separately from the common stock.

Each right will be exercisable for 1/1000 of a share of a newly designated Series B Junior Participating Preferred Stock at an exercise price of $25. Upon a person becoming an Acquiring Person, holders of the rights (other than the Acquiring Person) will have the right to acquire shares of the company's common stock at a substantially discounted price.

If a person becomes an Acquiring Person and the company is acquired in a merger or other business combination, or 50 percent or more of its assets are sold to an Acquiring Person, the holders of rights (other than the Acquiring Person) will have the right to receive shares of common stock of the acquiring corporation at a substantially discounted price.

After a person has become an Acquiring Person, the company's board of directors may, at its option, require the exchange of outstanding rights (other than those held by the Acquiring Person) for common stock at an exchange ratio of one share of the company's common stock per right.

The Board may redeem outstanding rights at any time prior to a person becoming an Acquiring Person at a price of $0.001 per right. Prior to such time, the terms of the rights may be amended by the Board.

In connection with the adoption of its stockholder rights plan, the Board of Directors also amended the company's bylaws to increase the shareholder vote required to remove a director without cause from 50 percent to two-thirds of the company's shares entitled to vote for the election of directors.

3-D Televisions, Internet-Connected Devices Require Changes in Home Theater Design.

BDI Designs Address Evolving Home Theater Trends

CHANTILLY, Va. -- Far from the days when the TV was content to sit on any table or open rack, consumers today are looking for fully-featured furniture solutions for their home theater to match the latest technology. In a year where 3D-TV and Internet-connectivity have gained ground in homes, home theater furniture design continues to evolve to maximize the potential of cutting-edge displays, electronic components and features.

Furniture manufacturer BDI is an industry leader in home theater furniture that is designed to seamlessly integrate technology into the home. "More consumers are looking for full-featured furniture solutions for their home theater," says Bill Becker, BDI's Design Director and CEO. "Beyond the place where the family comes together to be entertained, studies show that the family room is second only to the kitchen as the most occupied room of the house. This, combined with all of the 'cool' new technology, has created a renewed enthusiasm for a fully integrated home theater environment."

While many are dismissing new 3D-TV technology as a mere trend, recent reports from DisplaySearch show that the immersive television experience will soon be the mainstream technology. By 2014, 3D-TV will reach over 90 million shipments. This would mean that 3D would grow from 2 percent of all flat panel TVs shipped in 2011 to 41 percent in 2014.3D television broadcast channels from ESPN, Discovery and Direct TV are already a reality, according to the DIY Network.

But accommodating 3D-TV will be a challenge for interior designers. The same DIY Network story reports that TV manufacturers are only offering the technology on sets larger than 40 inches, in order to maximize the impact of the imagery. This can make choosing a cabinet difficult, as it must accommodate the television's size and its accompanying equipment, while staying compact as not to interfere with the illusion created above.

At the same time, Internet connectivity and streaming video have turned into a mainstay for digital entertainment, according to About.com. New connected "smart TVs" from companies such as Samsung and LG debuted at the 2011 CES equipped with their own app stores, including games and streaming videos. These TVs, which DisplaySearch expects to grow to 11 million units by 2014, come packed with features but at a high price, as with any early adopter tech. Consumers can also opt to purchase Internet-enabled devices like Blu-Ray players to enable online content. Digital Trends has reported that companies like Motorola are even developing social media applications for television, which will provide companion content like games, special offers, live chat, or targeted advertising.

In comparison to 3D-TV, connected TVs will require their own room design, with storage for extra routers and cords. Those that choose to add a Blu-Ray player or other Internet connected hardware rather than pay for a fully connected TV will also need an elegant disguise for their accompanying devices without interfering with the technology's longevity.

To address some of these trending issues, BDI has designed a collection of home theater furniture that can adapt to and accommodate the new dynamic technology. BDI's Arena TV Mount 9970, for example, was designed to mount a 40" - 60" flat panel television to almost any of the company's home theater cabinets. Arena's spine features a channel for routing, so cords can easily and neatly stay hidden out of plain sight, while the universal mounting bracket also providing a swivel option. Consumers can use the pre-set height adjustments to match their line of sight with the television, an essential for those that depend on matching the TV signal to the 3D glasses. Others like the new Cascadia home theater cabinets use an IR remote-friendly, grey tinted glass flip-down door that keeps components neatly out of sight. With three enclosed component compartments, the cabinet includes an open shelf for use with a soundbar or center speaker and/or additional components.

"Consumers are looking for furniture that will present their TV and latest technology in style while concealing many of the other components such as DVDs, gaming consoles, speakers and accessories," says Becker. "Beyond being able to accommodate - and show off - the hottest new components, furniture for home theater must also include features that maximize the functionality and longevity of high-dollar systems. This includes features like hidden wheels for easy access to the rear of components, flow-through ventilation to keep air circulating, adjustable shelves for versatile setup, convenient media or speaker storage, and integrated cable management systems to keep wires under control."

Becker adds, "As the economy has lagged in recent years, more families are staying in and enjoying their home theaters as opposed to taking the entire family out to a movie or other entertainment. In response, home theater systems have evolved to deliver the true 'theater' experience at home."

About BDI:

These members will join the existing Strategy Committee group, which includes Lenny Shrank, former CEO Swift, Mario Garnero, President of Brasilinvest and Fernando Chico Pardo, CEO Promecap.

Sellers of Dia-Cope supplement fined for misrepresenting claims

A Medical Device Daily Staff Report

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said Friday that an operation selling Chinese herbal supplements is banned from claiming its products treat or cure diseases and will settle charges that it violated a previous court order.

The FTC alleged that the sellers of Dia-Cope, a pill claimed to prevent, treat and cure diabetes, violated the order by misrepresenting the health benefits of their product and saying that clinical trials proved their claims. The defendants will give up ill-gotten gains of $120,396 - which the FTC said are the assets received from the sale of Dia-Cope.

The defendants originally sold Sagee, a Chinese herbal supplement that they said could improve memory and concentration, repair damaged brain cells, slow the aging of the brain, increase the learning ability of people with mental handicaps and treat various diseases and conditions related to brain function, including Alzheimer?s disease, senile dementia, schizophrenia, autism, cerebral hemorrhage, stroke, epilepsy and Parkinson?s disease.

The supplements were sold by distributors on the Internet and in some stores - 90 capsules for $60.

The FTC in January 2005 entered an order prohibiting the company from making unsupported claims. But the defendants then began advertising Dia-Cope on web sites, available in seven languages, saying its claims were supported by clinical trials and that the FDA had approved the product.

Air flight recommendations for diabetics

In response to new terror alerts for commercial flights and the series of restrictions for carry-on items, dLife (Westport, Connecticut) last week issued tips on traveling by air with insulin and other diabetes medications.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, all necessary medications, including insulin, are exempt from this ban. Prescription medications should be labeled as such, and the name on the label must match the name on the passenger ticket. In addition, dLife recommends that those with diabetes traveling with an insulin pump should carry a letter from their physician on letterhead explaining what the device is and why it should not be disconnected.

Paul Ford Martin, managing editor of dLife, said, ?Keep insulin vials and pens in their original packaging and let security personnel know you have diabetes and are carrying insulin and testing supplies. It?s important to give yourself adequate time to get through security. And call your airline before traveling to check on any additional restrictions that may be imposed at the carrier level.?

Bridges TV to Televise First-Ever FBI and Muslim Town Hall.

May 15th Forum Allows Muslims to Voice Growing Concerns to FBI

BUFFALO, N.Y., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In an historic first, Bridges TV will air its nationally televised Town Hall meeting between the FBI and Muslim and Arab Americans on Monday, May 15th at 8 pm ET / 9 pm PT. The Town Hall is the first time that the FBI and Muslim and Arab Americans have engaged in a dialog on national television. The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) hosts the town hall on national television in an effort to allow the American Arab and Muslim community a chance to voice their concerns publicly and directly to the FBI.

Paul Moskal, chief division counsel for the FBI in Buffalo, N.Y., fielded questions along with Tom Ginter, a recruiter for the FBI. The televised town hall is hosted by Adnan Mirza, Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations for Columbus, Ohio (CAIR-OH). "Our goal is to foster a better relationship between the American Muslim community and law enforcement authorities through communication and understanding," said Mirza.

"The FBI and Muslim Town Hall is just another example of the highly unique and differentiated television programming that Bridges TV is bringing to the nation. With the present world situation, this kind of programming is top of mind for all Americans," said Mo Hassan, CEO of Bridges TV.

The broadcast can be seen live on digital basic cable in Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; and Columbus, OH on WOW! Cable and Internet. Residents of Toledo, OH and Massachusetts can watch on their digital basic cable on Buckeye Cable and Internet and Shrewsbury Cable and Internet, respectively. Nationwide, Globecast World TV satellite is broadcasting the historic FBI and Muslim Town Hall on its basic service. The U.S. State Department plans to broadcast this FBI and Muslim Town Hall worldwide in June on the U.S. Embassy Television Network.

Participants questioned Moskal on topics such as loss of personal freedoms associated with the Patriot Act, concerns regarding delayed immigration and FBI monitoring of mosques and donations to Muslim charities.

Dr. Syed Ali Khan, an Iranian-born physician from West Virginia, voiced his frustration over security checks that have slowed his application for permanent U.S. residency. "I have never even had a speeding ticket in my life. Yet it has taken more than two and a half years for a security check," he said. Dr. Khan noted that this has impeded his career and plans for the future.

Moskal agreed that although the process is frustrating for some, difficulty with common last names and contact with government agencies in foreign nations cause delays.

Another caller voiced concern over monitoring of Muslim charities and how Muslims could assure they were donating to a legitimate fund. "When we write a check to a Muslim charity, how do we know our money reaches the intended recipient and doesn't land in a fund frozen by the United States government?" he asked.

"The public should know that we want to reach out to the Arab and Muslim communities. The FBI is committed to protecting their Constitutional rights," said Moskal. Ginter, FBI Special Agent for recruitment, noted that the Town Hall is an opportunity to ask for help within these communities. "Since 9/11, the FBI's main focus has shifted to preventing terrorism. This town hall allows us to recruit special agents within these communities to help us do that," said Ginter.

There is a lot of emphasis in the Internet Marketing community about getting traffic to websites, but Lewis believes just as much emphasis should be placed on setting up a website in such a way that it compels website visitors to take the desired action - whether that be to sign up for a free giveaway or newsletter, pick up the phone to make contact with the business or make a purchase online.

The 7 Secrets To Websites That Sell e-course is designed to educate SME website owners in seven easy to follow lessons.

"Imagine if in a few minutes a day over two weeks you could discover the key to making your website bring in fresh leads... new customers... more profits... every single day," says Lewis.

Lewis believes that websites should have one sole purpose: grow your business and make you money. Yet most business owners do not experience this type of online presence.

This is because many website designers do not have an understanding of what it takes to create an effective and profitable online presence. Yes, the site may look great - but if it is not making you money, then it is essentially an expensive advertisement sitting in cyberspace.

"What website owners will find when doing this free e-course," says Lewis, "is that all of the strategies covered are generally simple and easy to implement - but they can make the most incredible difference to the conversion rate of the site. However, the majority of people don't even know about them."

Is broadband as fast as it claims to be?(News)(Survey)

SCORES of readers have contacted us over the last week to tell us that their broadband service is failing to deliver - but we still want to hear from more of you.

Wales on Sunday has launched an investigation into whether broadband users in Wales are on the internet superhighway, or a virtual cycle lane.

We are backing communications watchdog Ofcom's efforts to stop internet service providers advertising unrealistic broadband speeds that they can't deliver.

Ofcom research revealed most customers had a much slower service than advertised by broadband companies.

It found that just 14% of customers on "up to" 20Mbps services received speeds of more than 12Mbps, while 58% averaged speeds of 6Mbps or less.

But many people don't even realise they are saddled with a broadband service that fails to deliver what they are paying for. We are investigating the true broadband speeds in Wales are - and we need your help.

Research and Markets: Sales Intelligence: Preparing for Smarter Selling.

M2 PRESSWIRE-March 2, 2011-: Research and Markets: Sales Intelligence: Preparing for Smarter Selling(C)1994-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

RDATE:02032011

Dublin - Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/d0911d/sales_intelligence) has announced the addition of the "Sales Intelligence: Preparing for Smarter Selling" report to their offering.

Top-performing sales organizations are meeting the challenges of identifying the most likely buyers of their products and services through the deployment of sales intelligence solutions that introduce a wide variety of data streams to their front-line staff. By empowering their sellers with better information about their prospect companies, markets and individuals, these firms are able to maximize their chances of hitting quota, and at the same time create efficiencies within the sales operations environment. As companies continue their search for the elusive "360-degree view" of their prospective clients, harvesting all the scattered information from social networking (free) and other content providers (paid) about these prospects can potentially be beneficial for the purposes of deploying more finely targeted sales and marketing campaigns.

By augmenting records in a customer relationship management (CRM) or sales force automation (SFA) system with this content, companies are building more complete profiles of their current customers and prospects through the information that is readily available on the internet. Still, selling teams continue searching for ways to reduce the amount of time sales representatives spend uncovering relevant company or contact information before following-up with the leads in the pipeline. As a result, the use of aggregated business directories and supporting technologies are helping to alleviate the pressure to acquire new and profitable customers, without increasing the cost of identifying and selling to these prospects.
