NSW:Parents pressed for time: survey

A new survey indicates parents across Australia want more quality time with the kids
.. with more than half citing work commitments as the number one barrier to family time.

Sweeney Research has polled 500 parents .. who say they're under increasing pressure
to juggle jobs .. housework .. social events and family commitments.

Work demands are the number one blockade to family time .. with 62 per cent of parents
saying it impacts on opportunities to be with their kids .. while housework is a close
second .. followed by after-school activities .. ranging from sport and dance .. to music
and art classes.

The survey also suggests that despite the increasing popularity of technology .. parents
say the activities they enjoy most with their children are the traditional ones such as
reading .. playing games .. talking .. cooking and going to the park.

The survey's been conducted by Sweeney for The Alannah and Madeline Foundation's Children365
initiative to promote children's welfare.
