QLD: Launch of nation s first business program for farmers

BRISBANE, April 12 AAP - The nation's first program to give farmers a global business edge
was launched here today.

The Executive Development Program for Primary Producers will be run jointly by the
University of Queensland and leading world agricultural bank Rabobank, with its subsidiary,
the Primary Industry Bank of Australia (PIBA).

The program, to boost the business acumen of Australian and New Zealand primary producers,
will hear from national and international experts, including London University-based food
industry management professor, John Morris.

PIBA managing director Bev Walters said the subjects would include strategic planning,
negotiation strategy, innovation and technology and financial, value chain and human resource
management.

UQ vice chancellor Professor John Hay said first-class business acumen and smart thinking
was needed to be competitive in a global market.

The program, sponsored by rural merchandisers Wesfarmers Dalgety, will run in Sydney from
October 17 to 22 this year. It also will be held for a week in October next year.
